Ekka Wrap-Up

W-H-O-A! We have had a MASSIVE ten days of live music, cowboys and food-on-a-stick!

Kicking off with Route 33’s performance on Thursday 8th August (and then their album launch at Johnny Ringo’s the following night), and then deep diving into performances by popular Australian country music artists Brad Cox, Josh Setterfield, Hayley Marsten, Hayley Jensen, Casey Barnes and of course our very own Hometown Hero Brooke Schubert – Ekka 2019 has been one to remember!

Ekka 2019 Highlights:

With ten non-stop days of live music, wild rides, sweet treats, wood chopping, showbags, monster trucks, fireworks, cake displays, dog shows, agricultural stalls and so so much more – it is hard to narrow down our Ekka highlights to just a handful of things, but we’ll give a red hot shot:

Haley Jensen & Casey Barnes:

Alright, alright, alright. Obviously, this is top of our list!

Hometown Fest were the proud sponsors of a great night of live music on Friday 16th August. Pulling out all the stops, we brought in two of Australia’s most popular country music artists at the moment – Hayley Jensen and Casey Barnes. And they did not disappoint!

The crowd at this event was electric with the dance floor packed from the first chord of Haley’s set right the way through to Casey’s closing number! We especially loved the fun banter from Waz, Casey’s drummer and tour manager!

Check out our pics from the night below.

Ekka Fireworks:

It wouldn’t be the Ekka without a few fireworks! This year’s show included all of the usual suspects as well as a few unexpected delights! Fireworks shooting off the back of quad bikes, horse riders with jumbo-sized sparklers and monster trucks spewing fire out their back-sides made for a jaw-dropping viewing experience!

Food, Glorious Food:

Did you know that many of your favourite food vendors from this year’s Ekka will be making an appearance at Hometown Fest 2019? We don’t want to give away too many of our secrets just yet but there might be a few famous vendors making a return to Brisbane Showgrounds for our inaugural event!

Country Music Showdown:

Another unforgettable event for us was the Country Music Showdown held on Saturday 17th August. Our very own Director Jess Anderson had the honour of sitting on the judging panel for this event and was hugely impressed by the level of talent that was represented on the stage.

The winners of this event included Ella & Sienna (junior category) and Felicity Kircher (open category) and we are so, so, SO excited to welcome them to our own stages later this year when they perform at Hometown Fest!

Live Music at XXXX Stockmen’s Bar & Grill:

If you’ve been watching Hometown Fest’s Instagram stories, then you’ll know that we basically camped out at Stockmen’s for the entire duration of this year’s Ekka! It was hands down the best place to catch live performances of some of the best Aussie talent in country music at the moment!

We caught performances by Brad Cox, Josh Setterfield, Route 33 and more… who did you catch and did you discover some new favourites?

That’s a Wrap!

We want to say a huge thank-you to Ekka and Brisbane Showground for letting us a be a part of Ekka 2019. We’d also love to send out a huge congrats to the winners of our Ekka ticket give away – we hope you had an amazing time! And finally, we’d love to invite you all to the inaugural Hometown Fest in November this year, also taking place at Brisbane Showgrounds.

Our festival runs for two days and two nights. We have free entry to all of our daytime events including free live music and entertainment for the whole family.
